Tampa is a city located on the west coast of Florida, in the United States. The area that is now Tampa was originally inhabited by various indigenous peoples for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans. In the 16th century, Spanish explorers arrived in Florida, and in the 18th century, the area that is now Tampa was part of the Spanish Empire.


In 1849, the first post office was established in Tampa, and in 1855, the city was incorporated. During the Civil War, Tampa served as an important supply port for the Confederacy.


After the Civil War, Tampa continued to grow, with the development of the cigar industry. Thousands of Cuban immigrants came to Tampa to work in the cigar factories, and the city became known as the “Cigar Capital of the World”. By the early 20th century, Tampa was the largest cigar-producing city in the world.

During the 20th century, Tampa continued to grow and diversify its economy. In 1971, the first phase of the Tampa International Airport was completed, which helped to increase tourism to the area.


Today, Tampa is a thriving city with a population of over 400,000 people. It is home to a diverse range of industries, including healthcare, finance, and tourism. The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is a popular annual event in Tampa, featuring a parade with pirates, music, and festivities. The event is named after the legendary pirate Jose Gaspar, who is said to have sailed the waters around Tampa Bay in the 1800s.


Tampa has many nicknames. Tampa is also called Cigar City because of the cigar production that took place in Ybor City. The Columbia Restaurant

Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City has been around since 1905 (in fact, it’s the oldest restaurant in Florida). Once a local cafe catering primarily to cigar workers in Ybor City’s heyday, it’s now one of the largest Spanish restaurants in the world.

Mr.Bird is an indoor-outdoor bar with a gorgeous aesthetic that screams Tampa. It is located on the roof of Armature Works and has an amazing view of the city that I never tire of. Huge umbrellas on comfortable patio seats and the interior is tastefully decorated. They offer food and drinks such as beer, rum, cocktails, wine and more.


Sail Plaza

Sail Plaza has the best mojitos in Tampa Bay! Located on S Franklin Street, the bar offers a quiet and intimate atmosphere with an outdoor seating area that is 360 degrees above the waterfront. You can visit for the food, the view, the drinks, or if you’re like me,  all three. Located right next to the Tampa Convention Center, they’re hard to miss!


511 Franklin
